Tunes of the Week

Back to university to a face-full of deadlines? Or else busy trying to cram for your GCSEs? Here are some motivational tunes to get you through your revision:

‘Rambo’ – Bryson Tiller

I first came across a remix of ‘Rambo’ on Soundcloud and this led me to the original. ‘Rambo’ is one of the few tracks where Tiller raps, as he usually focuses on R&B-style singing. The piano-based beat is combined with various samples and the result is a different take on the typical contemporary hip-hop sound.

‘Episode’ – Gallant

I know very little about Gallant other than he just released his first debut album, Ology. ‘Episode’ is one of my favourite tracks from it. Gallant mixes acoustic and electronic instruments to create a multi-layered, funky backdrop for his falsetto to soar over.

‘Remember The Name’ – Fort Minor, Styles of Beyond

An absolute classic, ‘Remember The Name’ was released over a decade ago! Fort Minor is the side project of Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda; he uses Fort Minor to explore a more hip-hop influenced sound. ‘Remember The Name’ is by far the most popular Fort Minor track, and for good reason: the aggressive sound, complete with a punchy beat and strings, really gets the adrenaline flowing.

‘Might Not’ – Belly, The Weeknd

Once again, The Weeknd works his magic to turn a mediocre song into a great one. ‘Might Not’ is a typical dark urban sound, dominated by a chest-shaking bassline.
