UK Teens Unaware of HIV or Aids

A third of teenagers aged 12 to 17 think they are unable to contract HIV through unprotected sex. The charity, MAC Aids Fund, surveyed nearly 1,000 teens, and the figures show that nearly 90% believe they are not at risk of catching HIV or Aids in their lifetime.

42 percent of the young people admitted they have never spoke about the disease. MAC Aids Fund are now wanting teenagers to be better educated on Aids, HIV and STI’s. The government have now stepped in saying ‘as part of the new science GCSE, pupils will be taught about sexually transmitted infections, which will include HIV and Aids for the first time.’

Figures which were released in June show that teens have the highest rate of STI’s. Shouldn’t they have the highest pass rate in exam results instead?

Kids, please be safe.
