Spider-Man will not be starring in the upcoming Venom movie, starring Mad Max actor Tom Hardy. Kevin Feige, creative director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirmed this last night at the Spider-Man: Homecoming red carpet event.

Variety asked him straight if the Venom movie would just be another Spider-Man film, and he replied:

“No. No, I think the folks there are making a great Venom movie and I don’t know much about it, but I know they’re off to a good start with Tom Hardy.”

Let’s just hope that they’re better than their last attempt at anything Spider-Man related. My eyes still sting. Not as much as Andrew Garfield’s though. The amount of crying he did. Any inconvenience and the waterworks are on: ‘Oh my parents are dead, oh my girlfriend died.’

Suck it up, Garfield.

Anyway, the movie is due to release in October 2018 and is being made by Sony, which owns the rights to the web-slinger, and its associated characters. Marvel cut a deal with Sony in order to get him into the MCU, which is why he was in Civil War and has his own movie. The director of Zombieland, Ruben Fleischer, is attached as the current director of the movie.

Homecoming opens up in cinemas on 7th July. It stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr, and Michael Keaton.

When the reviews come in, we’ll give you an update!

Until then though:
