Wales has the most difficult-to-pronounce places in the UK. Some of these places include Ysbyty Ystwyth, Llanfairpwllgwingyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllandysiliogogogoch and according to Nikki Barnett, a 51-year-old energy consultant from Nuneaton; Mount Kilimanjaro.

After being sent an email with a picture of Mount Kilimanjaro at work, she assumed it was in Wales and signed up to climb it with the intention of raising money for Myton Hospice in Coventry which cared for her late sister Jill, who passed away in 2014. So far she has managed to raise £8,000, but her ultimate goal is £10,000.

Of course, she has since learned the actual location of the mountain and has remarkably still accepted the challenge, saying that “it’s just a bit more of an adventure”.

When asked about her initial misunderstanding, she said: “It [the image] had Kilimanjaro underneath and I couldn’t pronounce it. I’m not being funny, but I’ve always struggled with the pronunciation of names in Wales, so I thought that’s where it was. It was a shock when we found out where it really was.’

Nikki and her 24-year-old daughter Leanne Cope, who is taking on the mountain with her, have been training hard and will leave the UK for Tanzania on the 23rd of September.
