Digital Extremes, the studio behind the massively successful free-to-play action game Warframe, announced their new project in the pipeline, called Keystone. It is apparently a competitive FPS “with a distinct blend of first-person action and deck-building strategies”.

It is slated to be in closed alpha testing later in the week.

The game will be reminiscent of a 1970s-esque “multiverse”, represented by a virtual game board. You blend unique cards that offer powers and weapons for your chosen character. “With timing and resourcefulness, personally customized decks give players the upper hand in battle both individually and when strategically coupled with teammates’ decks,” the studio said.

Warframe is still immensely popular, with over 20,000 players online everyday.

Expect to see it at E3, along with everything else we’ve reported on in the last week.

It’s a tad vague at the moment, but, for a company like Digital Extremes, making another game about shooting people in the face shouldn’t be too difficult. Warframe is a heck of a third person shooter, and thousands of people still play it every day.

There’s just something about being a space ninja that’s so attractive.

For the 70 hours I spent with the game, it was pretty dang good. Best space-ninja shoot-em-up sim ever.

Can’t put my finger on what it is.

Keep an eye on this one. Might be something worth playing!
