South Wales Police has launched an investigation after photos of a calf in the back of a Volkswagen Passat emerged on Facebook.

Despite not being fully grown, a calf can still weigh up to 500kg making this a really dangerous load to transport in a car. Overloading a car can cause issues with braking and steering and potentially cause an accident. Not to mention that this is a really inhumane way to transport livestock.

The car was photographed going past junction 42 of the M4 and it is still unknown why the cow was being transported.

A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: “This is a completely unacceptable way to transport a large, farm animal. This represents an animal welfare concern but also a risk to the safety of the driver and other road users. We would strongly urge people never to transport an animal like this.”

So far little is known about the driver of the vehicle and their intentions for the cow. If caught, the driver could be charged with overloading a car and receive 3 points and a £300 fine.
