Bethesda, creators of Fallout 4, Skyrim and Dishonored, have released a statement on their site, saying they will no longer be releasing review copies for their upcoming games.

You can read the full article here.

The post makes DOOM as an example, as they did give out review copies for that. However it was plagued by a few bugs and game breaking and other things. This, according to Bethesda, led to “speculation about the quality of the game”. DOOM did actually receive amazing reviews, and rightly so.

However, this seems to be the only argument they are using to defend their point. And it’s weak.

They claim to understand how much consumers rely on reviews, but this entire statement is in contradiction to that. If Bethesda really wanted to show that, they would scrap this idea. The decision is totally anti-consumer. Completely and utterly.

It makes us question Bethesda’s confidence when it comes to reviews. Even if they aren’t confident, this is not the way to go about it.  They can’t control the media, they can’t control what people say and are now taking what looks like the No Man’s Sky approach.

They are now essentially confirming pre-orders as the way forward.

And that sucks.

What’s even more annoying is the fact that, throughout the past few years, their games have been consistently good!

It doesn’t make any sense considering they had DOOM this year, Fallout 4 last year… okay, they did mess up Elder Scrolls Online but that’s not the point.

Oh well.

There’s only one thing to do in combat to this.

Don’t pre-order video games.
