What Annoyed the Internet This Week?
Share:
This week’s ‘what annoyed the Internet’ should really be called ‘what confused the Internet’; or rather, ‘what confused Lord Alan Sugar and everyone else over the age of 45’ on Twitter.
It all begins with an Onion article about Taylor Swift. The Onion is a satirical website that posts humorous articles. Recent examples include ‘Experts Warn Beef Could Act As Gateway Meat To Human Flesh’ and ‘Millions Across Country Celebrate ‘Make A Kid At Work’ Day’. For those who don’t understand satire or who aren’t familiar with ‘The Onion’, there can be some communication issues.
The article that has confused people (namely Alan Sugar) this week is this one:

It’s probably worth explaining what ‘Kanye West Controversy’ refers to. The American businessman and rapper went on a bit of a Twitter rant this week. Classic Kanye, right? Well, this Twitter rant was unique, in that he publicly declared his support for President Donald Trump and even posted a picture of his signed ‘Make America Great Again’ hat.

This resulted in stars such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Beyonce unfollowing Kanye on Twitter. This is apparently a really big deal.
Just to be 100% clear, Taylor Swift does NOT have a tattoo of Swastika on her face. Does that even need saying? Surely people would know that anyone in their right mind (particularly a pop star of Taylor Swift’s reputation (not a pun)) wouldn’t be so stupid as to do something like that?
Well, the gullibility of the Internet is a thing that never ceases to amaze.
Some fooled Twitter users voiced their disgust at Swift:
Please tell me you don't honestly think that's a real picture?

Somehow, Jeremy Corbyn’s name managed to become involved:
This is an incredible self-own my dude

Whether or not Alan Sugar was fooled or if he is, in fact, a Twitter genius who knew that his retweet would attract so much attention will remain unknown. One thing is for sure though, people need to check out the facts of a story before commenting on such a public forum.
