What’s wrong with open-top bus?

If you’re looking for an underwhelming story about bus drama, look no further.
Mendip Mule Motorbus, a bus company based on the Devon and Dorset coast, has had to axe its open top bus service after objection and abuse from residents. Some residents of the area began to park their cars in such a way that made it difficult for the buses to navigate the streets. The bus operator says the residents have persisted to show “hostility and tirades” and drivers have even been verbally abused.
The final straw came as a bus station entrance was “deliberately blocked”.
Company owner, Derek Gawn, can no longer cope with the endless antics of the bus-hating people of Dorset.
He stated, “I do realise that 99% of people do support us, but I can no longer cope with the 1%. It isn’t for the bus drivers to be shouted at by residents who don’t welcome the facility.”
Mr Gawn also pointed out that this anti-bus attitude is “not a particularly good welcome for the much-needed tourists bringing their spending to the town.”
The service runs through Beer, Colyton and Seaton in Devon, and goes into Lyme Regis and Charmouth in Dorset. The problem initially began in Seaton, with locals parking badly on purpose around the bus depot. 25 people were employed by this particular service and as a result of “whining locals”, many of these jobs have been lost.
The reason for this bus hatred is yet unknown and seemingly irrational.
