With one more series to go before we see all of Marvel’s Defenders in action, let’s have a look at them, in all their grit and splendour. From Luke Cage to Jessica Jones, we have five amazing heroes to yammer about. Hopefully this will give you a better idea of who these characters are, and might even prompt you to watch the Netflix exclusives if you haven’t already! Check them out! (Spoilers and season references ahead.)

daredevil

Daredevil – Matt Murdock, avocado at law. After an accident with some radioactive substances when he was young, Matt pushed a man out of the way of an oncoming truck, and his life was forever changed. The substance blinded him, burning his eyes, but enhanced his senses tenfold. He leads a double life, as a lawyer by day, and vigilante by night. Helping from both sides of the law. He kicks some serious ass in the series, and is our first Defender.

The Punisher – An ex-soldier who is more than a little unhinged. After witnessing the death of his wife and daughter, he has zero sympathy for the scum of New York. He often clashes with the likes of Daredevil and Spider-Man over his ideals. It will be interesting to see how his relationship with the characters unfolds in the upcoming series.

Jessica Jones – 50% bourbon, 50% sheer salt and sass. She’s as strong as Luke Cage, and has no trouble showing it. Many had no idea who she was until the Netflix series, and after she killed Killgrave, it’s a wonder what they’re going to do with her character next. Plus, her series set up Luke for his. We look forward to seeing her tattered jeans and scarf soon!

Luke Cage – The series has just been released and a review is in progress, people. AKA Power Man, Luke is a beacon of hope for Harlem, with bullet proof skin and super human strength, he’s a powerhouse of a hero. He’s loved by those who know him, and sneered at by people who don’t. It seems rather poignant to have a bulletproof black guy in the mainstream media at the moment.

Iron Fist – Last but not least, Iron Fist. Daniel Rand, a martial arts master, with the power of the Iron Fist, allowing him to focus his chi into a single point. He is often partnered with Luke Cage, and had a comic series for several years with the big guy. We can’t wait to see how the series pans out, as this opens Marvel to the mystical side of the universe. And the weird.

Well, that about wraps it up!

Who’s your favourite?

(If it isn’t Matt or Luke, you’re wrong.)
