Why Emma Watson is the Perfect Role Model

After putting down her broomstick as Hermione Granger in 2011, we take a look at the reasons why Emma Watson’s public life after Harry Potter has made her the perfect role model for the girls of our generation.

1. Brown University

Watson who has been enveloped in worldwide fame since the age of nine still took herself to university in 2009. In May this year, she graduated from Brown University in America with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. Despite all of the money she made and jobs she had secured for the future, 24 year-old Emma still believed her education was far more valuable.

2. “I feel like young girls are told that they have to be a princess and fragile. It’s ********. I identify much more with being a warrior – a fighter.”

The feminist powerhouse that is Watson has spoken out against gender stereotypes and we think that this could possibly be her most influential quote. Knowing that she has a voice that so many people will listen to is something she knows how to use very well.

3. Visiting Uruguay to encourage political involvement

Watson delivered a 4,000-signature petition to Uruguay’s government to encourage women in the country to become much more involved with the politics of their homeland.

4. Speaking the truth about intelligence

Despite it not being post-Potter, the moment Emma Watson was asked how Hermione Granger is an inspiration is too great not to include. Watson responded to the question with:

“Hermione’s not scared to be clever. I think sometimes really smart girls dumb themselves down a bit, and that’s bad… I’m a bit of a feminist. I’m very competitive and challenging.”

5. Becoming THE ambassador

Threatened with the release of privately taken intimate photos because of her outstanding speech regarding gender equality, Watson did not stop defending the #HeForShe campaign she launched last Monday. It seems that Watson has become THE ambassador after the speech for UN Women in New York last week.

To conclude this epic round-up of Emma Watson’s ability to be an inspiration, it’s pretty obvious that she is someone we’d want the girls of this generation to look up to.
