We’ve all been there – forgetting to switch data roaming off when you take a trip abroad, and coming home to hundreds of pounds of charges. Not good. Thankfully, as of June 15th, mobile companies will no longer be allowed to charge you for using data abroad in EU countries.

Amazing, right?

Well, maybe not. Brexit is just around the corner, meaning that this could easily be reverted. Of course, once the leaving process is complete, Britain will no longer be subject to EU laws, so many mobile companies could decide to reintroduce charges.

But, according to experts, this is unlikely. Kester Mann, telecoms analyst at CCS Insight, told The Mirror it would be a “foolhardy option,” adding:

“I think it would go down very, very badly with customers.

“It would be very difficult for them to do that just because the UK is such a competitive market and we’ve moved such a long way from roaming.”

So, at least for now, let’s all rejoice in the knowledge that we won’t be receiving unwanted charges anytime soon!
