Well, it was about time.

After 10 long years, Microsoft’s most prestigious console has been pulled from the production line. With its brother, the Xbox One, now taking the mantle for Microsoft, this comes as no surprise.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in a blog post, ‘gamers had completed more than 78 billion hours of playtime on the console.’

The post is rather touching. It highlights all the good the 360 did in its day, mentioning some of the biggest franchises that are exclusive to the Xbox 360 (including Gears of War and Halo).

Thanks to the Xbox 360, we evolved Xbox Live from the original Xbox into the thriving online gaming community it is today. And the console became a beloved gaming and entertainment hub with over 78 billion gaming hours played, nearly 486 billion Gamerscore on 27 billion achievements and over 25 billion hours spent in apps over its lifetime.

The console has gone through many renditions.

And finally the E, released in 2014, which was the Xbox 360’s final form.

The 360 will go down in history as one of the best consoles to ever exist. I will never forget the hours on Gears with friends, or the controllers smashed on Dark Souls II. The days spent on Halo matchmaking.

We salute you Xbox 360.

God speed.
