Christmas and New Year: What they have taught us…

I must start off the first column of 2016 by saying happy new year! I hope that your Christmas holidays were filled with happiness and relaxation. If they weren’t, that’s still okay – Christmas is just another day of the year, only, a lot more is expected of us.

If your Christmas was not so good, J.K. Rowling put it perfectly on Twitter. Have a read and she’ll make it all crystal clear.

Anyway, there is something revolutionary that I learnt over the Christmas holidays and suspect that quite a few of you did, too. And it’s about having a break; resting from work and pressure.

Many of us have part-time jobs and some of us work two, so we were understandably working throughout Christmas fulfilling those obligations. However, there was still time for us to rest and relax. For that, I am extremely grateful.

You see, what I suddenly became aware of over Christmas is that having a break is not detrimental. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. The first term of Sixth Form got gruelling towards the end and I think it’s fair to say we were all like zombies in the last week. So, I promised myself I would rest over Christmas and come back in the new year with my batteries recharged.

Little did I know how brilliant it would feel.

So, the message for 2017? Work hard but rest well.

Wishing you all a brilliant year and the best of luck in all of your pursuits. See you next week.
