#YEAR13PROBLEMS

2 October 2017

By Lauren E. White

On going it alone…

It’s true that the only person who will ever completely be there for you for your whole life is yourself. So for that reason alone, you should never be too worried about ‘going it alone’, because you can definitely trust yourself to never leave.

One way or another, this year will mean that we all end up going it alone and heading on our different paths: whether it’s university, a job or an apprenticeship or even a gap year (you’re lying if you didn’t read that ‘gap yah’). That’s why those of us who have always felt like somewhat of a lone wolf in the pack can relax a bit more. New beginnings are near and that self-reliance you’ve been building up will come in handy.

Year 13 can cause some divergence between friends and groups as differences and interests divert outwardly into the rest of the world instead of towards each other. But that is no reason to start worrying if you’ve already felt like that before. Everyone is starting to (finally) come into their own.

So, this week’s message is don’t be afraid to step into your own person properly this year. It’s probably been a long time coming anyway and it means you’re ready for bigger and better things/people.

Good luck and see you next week.
