#YEAR13PROBLEMS

5 September 2017

By Lauren E. White

Well, here we are.

Nope, I’m not doing an Emily Thornberry, I’m simply reminiscing about, oh, the past six years of secondary school life. Where did that go?

Somehow we’ve gotten to our final year of school, Year 13, and this time next year we’ll have all dispersed to different pockets of the country (and even the world), only knowing each other by SnapChat stories alone. It’s going to be so weird.

This year will fly by – there is no doubt about that. So we should really be making the most of it while also trying our best in the last year. There’s lots of pressure on us too, so getting that work-life balance right is important too. It seems like we’re going to be doing a balancing act this year.

While it seems frightening that once we’ve got through these final months of school, we’re off into the big bad world, we will be ready for it when it comes. If you think back to being in Year Eight and finding out about GCSE exams, you thought ‘how will I ever do those?’, yet when you got into Year 11, you realised that you were prepared for them (or at least vaguely ready…).

#YEAR13PROBLEMS is here and will, sadly, be the last ‘Year X’ column I’ll ever write. So, despite the nostalgia and the sadness of endings, I wish you all the very best of luck this year. Live it, enjoy it and believe it.

The #YEAR13PROBLEMS column will run every Monday for the remainder of the academic year and follows on from the Year 10, 11 and 12 columns.
