With so many venues, big and small, nowadays, Newcastle alone has seen thousands of acts gracing the city’s many stages. From One Direction to Papa Roach and everything in between, almost everyone has seen someone who has really made their year in 2013. Here’s our round up of the top ten bands and artists who have hopped around the country this year putting a smile on our faces…

BRUNO MARS

In October, the singer-songwriter traveled the UK to perform at six arenas around the UK. Despite his continuously late arrivals on stage, he blew everyone in the audience away and filled arenas every night. Definitely one to see of you get the chance.

ONE DIRECTION
Being probably X Factor’s biggest success to date and having fans queue for days to see them, there’s no saying One Direction aren’t a pretty big deal. Thousands saw the band this year and tickets to their next tour have sold out immediately so surely there must be something about their shows that is very appealing.

RIZZLE KICKS

The energetic Jordan and Harvey have bounced onto hundreds of stages since the beginning of their career and seem to have made an impression on every audience member at every show. The duo seem to really be the ones to go to when it comes to getting the crowd going, and often they throw a few good tunes in there too.

DISCLOSURE

Teaming up with AlunaGeorge earlier this year meant White Noise became the sound of the summer. Disclosure seemed to be thrown into every festival line up and for a good reason of course. No one seems to hype up a crowd like they do, a rare and amazing quality for a dance group to have.

RUDIMENTAL

It seemed like Rudimental were everywhere and anywhere this year and every O2 academy had them on their booking list at some point or another. The group proved through their live shows why they were shrouded in a cloak of hype.

EMINEM

The rapper’s short but sweet UK stops were many festival goer’s highlight of the year. He owned the stage at Reading and Leeds festivals and showed why he truly is a rap god. Eminem will always be a legend, especially with his live shows.

CHASE AND STATUS

As one of the most prestigious dance groups in modern times, it feels like everyone saw Chase and Status live at some point this year. They played a generous eleven dates in the UK, excluding festivals, and it was as if each date was closing night. Truly one of the greatest live acts ever.

30 SECONDS TO MARS

The American rock band, supported by You Me At Six, stormed large venues across the country and made quite the impression on their British fans. They completely made you feel like you were part of the show with their constant referencing to their fans as their families and making every song better than the last. Would definitely recommend.

SKRILLEX

Sonny Moore is most likely dubstep’s most famous star and the amount of hype about the marmite producer is astounding. Its as if a god has entered the stage when he arrives and he had the power to, quite literally, make everyone crouch to the floor at his shows. Although not everyone’s cup of tea, one of his shows is an experience you will never forget, especially if you’re a standing audience member.

LANA DEL REY

Indie pop princess, Lana Del Rey, performed at a handful of dates in May this year and, if you were in the front row, was probably the most memorable experiences of your life. The dramatic build up to her entrance was beautiful and the rest of the show continued to be too. Everyone in the front row got a picture with her, their ticket signed, a hug and a quick chat with the singer and most got all four. Finally, an artist who cares more about her fans than what security have to say.
