1D’s Made in the A.M. hits top spot

One Direction’s latest album Made in the A.M. is officially the UK’s number one album as well as having set the record for the fastest selling album of 2015.

After its release last Friday, there was much speculation on whether the band, made up of Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, would reach the top spot, as Justin Bieber’s album Purpose was also released on the same day. However, it seems that the band have continued their reign over pop music and beat Bieber by around 3,000 sales while it sold a mighty 93,189.

The album is not the first of theirs to reach the top spot so quickly – it follows 2012’s Take Me Home, 2013’s Midnight Memories and 2014’s Four, all three of which were the fastest-selling albums of that whole year.

Made in the A.M. is the four-piece’s first album without former band member Zayn Malik who quit the band earlier this year in March. It is also their last album before they officially embark on a hiatus on 1st January next year.
