Halloween is the best holiday of the year- it combines sweets and dressing up with scary movies and pranks. If you’re hosting a Halloween party or staying at home answering the door to trick-or-treaters, why not liven things up with a few of these food pranks? You’ll most likely end up with eggs thrown off your windows and a reputation as the neighbourhood menace but it will definitely be worth it.

- Skittles in an M&M packet- This trick is simple and doesn’t need much explanation. Mix Skittles and M&Ms together and wait for someone to take a big handful of fruity, chewy and chocolate-y grossness.

- Stock cube toffee- The good thing about stock cubes is they’re pretty much the same size as most chewy sweets like toffees, Starburst or Chewits. By simply removing the stock cube wrapper and replacing it with the sweet wrapper, you can give your friends an unexpected, chicken flavoured surprise. Bonus points if you can get a vegan to fall for it- make sure it’s a vegan you don’t like as they will probably never speak to you again.

- Salty “sour” sweets- Salt looks pretty much identical to that sour sugar that covers sweets like gummy worms or Tangfastics. Buy some plain gummy bears/worms, cover them with salt and put them in a sour sweets packet. Just like the Cards Against Humanity card, that will be a very salty surprise.

- Chocolate covered sprouts- Simple and cruel. Pour some melted chocolate over a few sprouts, place them all in a nice bowl and watch in delight as unsuspecting children bite into them expecting a sweet, chocolate only to get that gross sprout taste.

- Onion toffee apple- This will take a little more preparation but it would probably provide the funniest reaction, especially as you need to take a hard first bite into a toffee apple. If you don’t have time to make toffee, use chocolate instead.
