Your first week at University will potentially be the most exciting one of your whole degree, so you have to make the most out of it. Here are 5 musts during freshers’ week:

  • Check out plenty of societies, and sign up to all of the ones you’re interested in – During freshers’ week, every society will be campaigning for your interest, and there’ll probably even be a lot of freebies given out too. So, make sure you go to all of the society fairs and find out as much as you can. Try to sign up to something a bit different to what you’re used to, and take yourself out of your comfort zone, because you never know where it could take you.
  • Start budgeting – University can be expensive, especially if you start splashing out on anything and everything with your student loan in the first few weeks. So, it’s important to start budgeting. Work out your income, and your necessary expenditure, and then see how much you have left over for all of the extras.
  • Make new friends – Put yourself out there. Remember, everyone is in the same position, and they’re probably just as nervous as you about meeting new people. But it has to be done. You’re going to be living with these people for the next year, or studying alongside them, so try your best to get along with them and you may even meet your best friend during the first week.
  • Make the most out of all of the activities – Freshers’ week will be full of activities, from club nights to cocktail tasting, and so on. While there may be a few activities that just don’t float your boat, chances are that you will love most of them and have a great time.
  • Stay safe – Now for the boring one. It’s important to have the best time during freshers’ week, and get your experience off to a great start, but you have to make sure that you’re safe while you do so. Make sure that you know where you are at all times, that you know how to get home, and you have enough money to do so. It may be a good idea to swap numbers with your flatmates, just to ensure that nobody ever gets left behind.

Most importantly, have a great time! You won’t get to do it all over again; make the most out of it.
