Gravity Scores Big

Gravity, the blockbuster space drama,which was released in the UK back in August, is up for 11 awards at this years Baftas including Best Film and Best British film. Nudging out 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle the science fiction thriller stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Miss Bullock definitely has something to smile about as she is also nominated for best actress along with Cate Blanchett, Emma Thompson, Amy Adams and Dame Judi Dench. While the movies’ director, Alfonso Cuaron, is in the running for best director.

12 Years a Slave, directed by Steve McQueen, received a staggering 10 Bafta nods with five in the top awards. The main star of the historical drama, Chiwetel Ejiofor, was previously nominated for a Bafta in 2006 in the Rising Star category. Ejiofor has said that working on 12 Years a Slave was ‘one of the greatest experiences I’ve had as an actor.’ Chiwetel has fierce competition for the Best Actor awards, facing off with the likes of Tom Hanks, Christian Bale, Bruce Dern and Leonardo DiCaprio

American Hustle, the fast-paced action thriller stars Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.  This Christmas release also secured an impressive ten nominations.
