The government have new plans for children from the age of 11 to be taught about sexual consent to give them a better understanding and enabling them to make the right choices and to be safe.

The lessons are planned for mixed and single sex for schools up and down the country. The government believe it is crucial for those under the age of 16 to know about consent before they become sexually active. Education Secretary Nicky Morgan said the changes come due to the “unimaginable pressures” on  young people growing up.

With so many cases of child sexual exploitation in the news at the moment, isn’t it about time the government did something to try and reduce the risks young people face?

The NSPCC have a dedicated helpline for anyone who is aware of a young person dealing with abuse or neglect. Call 0800 389 1701 if you need to speak with someone
