Adam Johnson, a footballer for Sunderland, has been sacked by the team after being accused of two accounts of sexual activity with a child. Although he has denied both, he has previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and one charge of grooming. The girl, who was 15 at the time of the incident but cannot be named, explained how Johnson had asked her for a ‘kiss and more’, agreeing to meet up after exchanging messages for a number of weeks.

Sending Johnson a friend request on Facebook, as he was her favourite player, the two soon shared numbers on WhatsApp and first met up on 17 January 2015 when he signed two Sunderland shirts for her.

Discussing a separate meeting, the young girl wept as she described him unloosening her jeans and putting his hand down her knickers.

She is said to have shown off to her friends, stating: “I thought I was big and I thought I was clever; I feel so stupid now I didn’t see it at that time.”

When asked if Johnson knew her age, she added:  “He knew when my birthday was. He knew when I was going to turn 16, and he asked what year I was in at school. I told him I was in Year 10.” It’s clear that Johnson was aware that what he was doing was against the law, but did not seem to be concerned by this as he continued to message the girl in question.

He was accompanied to court by his girlfriend Stacey Flounders, the mother of their child, on February 12th. However, she did not attend the second hearing on Monday.

The trial continues, and it seems that more information is being revealed every day.
