Visiting after the devastating effects of Hurricane Matthew, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, witnessed lootings on aid trucks in Haiti.

The incident in Les Cayes was a result of anger from the people of Haiti who feel largely left behind by the world and their government. As a result, Mr Ban has asked for countries to donate more.

Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti last week and destroyed huge areas of land while killing 900 innocent civilians and causing a suspected epidemic of cholera. There is now a crisis in the Caribbean country as 1.4 million people are in need of vital supplies to keep them alive.

“We understand the impatience and the anger of the population who are waiting for emergency relief. We are doing all we can to facilitate the arrival of the assistance soon as possible,” Mr Ban said.

He added: “I was very, very sad when we saw the complete devastation. But people the world over stand with you”.
