After just getting used to Apple Pay, released in late 2014, the UK will now be home to yet another form of contactless payment.

Google phones (Android) is launching its own contactless payment app, which is said to be as simple as putting in your card details and putting your phone against the compatible card machine. If you already have a Google account with your details on, you can easily add a new card from any participating bank. These include Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, and Bank of Scotland.

Barclays will also be releasing their take on contactless, which will be integrated into their mobile app, hence why they aren’t participating in Android’s program.

The website gives simple, direct advice as to how to get started, and looks to be just that. Simple. To use contactless with your phone, simply look for the Android symbol on any card machine.

You can view the website here, which details the stores participating in the scheme.

It’s not just stores that are adopting this new wave of payments though. London’s tube network will be supporting the app, in the same way it does for Apple Pay.

The app will work with any Android system running 4.4 or higher.

Tech giant Samsung also has plans for its own app, which is to be launched in the US.

This begs the question then: how long before using cash or card won’t be the question any more. It’ll be Apple or Android?

And if you wanna pay by cash, you’ll look like this:

Y'know...ancient? Like the dinosaurs?
