Having won his fourth Grand Slam title, Andy Murray is now the number one ranking tennis player in the world.

He beat Novak Djokovic 6-3 6-4, ensuring he will stay ahead of the Serb when heading into 2017. He said now he’s at the top, “I obviously would be motivated to try and stay in that position,”

“But the majors get me working hard; they really, really motivate me.”

He won his third big title way back in July this year, and rounded out the year with a 24 winning streak, that accumulated with the victory over Djokovic at the O2 Arena.

Safe to say he has earned a break. He will attend his father’s stag do, before his training begins for the new season and the Australia Open.

Djokovic has been in a rut recently, saying after the match: “There was no serious way for me to win today’s match. From the very beginning we could see that. He was just a better player all in all. It just wasn’t my day. On the other hand, credit to Andy for being mentally tough and playing the right shots, making me play extra shots in every rally. He definitely deserved to win.”

The guy might be in favour of sexist pay, but he knows when he’s beat.

In other tennis news, younger players from under-privileged backgrounds are being taught the ins and outs of tennis through the LTA’s tennis for kids scheme. The programme has gotten over 10,000 kids to take up the sport, and they hope to get 20,000 next year.

Well done to Murray for his win, but did anyone think this guy looked a bit out of place?
