For once politicians appear to have got it right, although there were 74 in parliament today that voted against making it illegal to smoke in cars with children. The law which will come into effect on October 1st will see irresponsible smokers being fined £50 if caught tabbing with a minor in the vehicle.

The law which was backed by 342 MPs is protecting the health of potentially 430,000 who deal with second hand smoke each week; the effects of this can be ‘asthma, meningitis and even cot deaths’ according to the British Lung Foundation.
