Bridge Breakdown

29 April 2014

By Yasmine

Last night an unidentified man took to the Tyne Bridge to take his own life. The bridge that connects Newcastle and Gateshead came to a standstill at 7.35pm when emergency services raced to the scene.

The man had climbed on the arc of the bridge which is the iconic landmark’s highest point. Soon after the emergency services arrived, the man plunged 194 feet to the river below. The man was saved by the rescue officers who watch him plummet into the water. The man who is said to have been in his 40’s was still alive and rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he later died of his injuries.

Now our thoughts are with his family.
