Business leaders to sleep at St James’ Park for charity

Sixty senior businesspeople are planning to sleep under the stars in St James’ Park for a night in order to raise money for homeless people.

Homelessness charities including Changing Lives and the Newcastle United Foundation will benefit from the event on March 3rd, for which business leaders will sleep on the pitch in sleeping-bags. Each is aiming to raise £1,000 in order to support homeless people in and around the city.

The event will be organised by CEO Sleepout, who have hosted two previous events in Newcastle. The last, in 2014, raised £36,000, but Andy Preston, chairman of the company, hopes to almost double that this time around.

Stephen Bell, the chief executive of Changing Lives, said that the sleepout “provides a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of homelessness issues and a chance to stop and think about how these issues affect real people’s lives” in the city.

Changing Lives supports homeless people in the region through advice and shelter.
