Celebs Want Drug Law to be Changed

Over 90 celebrities, politicians, lawyers and health experts have written a letter to David Cameron to review the policy of illegal drugs.

The letter explains that the law should no longer make drug possession a crime. Celebrities such as Russell Brand, Sting and Sir Richard Branson have all signed the letter which was drafted by the drug charity, Release.

Release felt the need to write the letter as more than 1.5 million people have been unnecessary criminalised in the last 15 year for being in possession of drugs. The letter also includes evidence from Australia, the Czech Republic and Portugal, which shows health problems that are linked to drugs have decreased when drug users are given medical support and advice, they believe this is a better way than being prosecuted.
