It has been a pretty static week in the Championship League. Everyone has stayed in the same place as the previous week with the exception of Huddersfield Town which has moved to fourth place, knocking Leeds United down to fifth. Newcastle United remain in first place but again they are only one point ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion. The club’s last game was against Derby County on Saturday and they managed to win 1-0.

Matt Ritchie scored their only goal in the 27th minute, but no one else managed score in the second half as Derby County really upped their game. Derby manager Steve McClaren believed that his team didn’t deserve to lose after their impressive performance after half time. Here’s his full statement:

“I’m disappointed to lose points but we came here, had a go and got them nervous at the end. We were disappointed with our first-half performance and the goal, but in the second half we were fantastic and should not have lost that game.”

Rafa Benitez, Newcastle manager, took the opportunity to praise the fans for their deep connection with the players.

“The fans were really good from the beginning, you could feel the atmosphere and the fans appreciate that. The connection between players and fans is crucial if we want to go up.”
