After beating Leeds 0-2 yesterday, Newcastle United Football Club have won eight games in a row, keeping them at the top of the league table for yet another week. Newcastle manager described the game as a “credit” to all of the Newcastle players and said that their “understanding of the game was good”. This game was particularly significant as the players and fans paid tribute to Gary Speed, who committed suicide at his family home in Cheshire. Speed played for both teams during his career. He was part of Leeds United from 1988-96 and then for Newcastle United between 1998-2004. He was also the captain of Wales until 2004. Speed was legendary in the football world and he still has a number of records to his name. He is the most capped Wales player and he used to have the record for the most appearances in the Premier League matches. The tribute was made during the eleventh minute of the match.

For the other teams, Saturday was a busy day in the Championship League, with ten games taking place altogether, which saw victories for Cardiff City, Birmingham, Derby, Reading, Blackburn, Nottingham Forest and QPR.

Second, third and fourth in the League Table are Brighton, Reading, and Huddersfield.
