After a close call for Newcastle United’s leadership of the Championship League Table, it seems that there was no need to panic after the team quickly snatched back the top spot from second place team Brighton and Hove Albion. NUFC lost a match to Sheffield on Boxing Day while Brighton won its game 3-0 against QPR which caused the Magpies to temporarily place second. Thankfully, on the 30th of December, NUFC won its home game against Nottingham Forest 3-1. This leaves Newcastle with a total of 52 points and Brighton with 51. Clearly, there’s no guarantee who is going to win the league this season, as Brighton could overtake once more at any minute.

8 points behind Brighton is Reading who won its last game on Boxing Day against Norwich City 3-1.

As usual, Newcastle’s star player in its last match was Dwight Gayle, who scored two of the three total goals. The other goal, scored four minutes in, was from Matt Ritchie in the form of a penalty.

NUFC manager Rafa Benitez told reporters: “Dwight [Gayle] is a great player, scoring goals and creating chances, I’m pleased for him, hopefully he can carry on scoring goals.”

Let’s just hope he doesn’t get sold to another club next season!
