Clarkson Out?

The Top Gear presenter has more lives than a Siamese cat. How many more times will his slips be overlooked until BBC shows him the door once and for all?

Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended from working on set after he allegedly punched an assistant producer because there was no food laid out after his ‘long day’ of filming. Oisin Tymon, the victim of the attack, has worked on the Top Gear set for over a decade. The presenter allegedly “saw red” and lashed out, resulting in the rest of the series being halted and the most recent episode, due to air on Sunday, will no longer be shown.

Clarkson’s antics are constantly landing him in hot water. Just last year, he was slammed with a ‘final warning’ from BBC executives after he mumbled a racist slur which crops up in the nursery rhyme Eenie Meenie Minie Mo whilst filming. It seems that this warning resonated with Clarkson, prompting him to record a formal apology and post it on social networking sites. In the video, he seems genuinely remorseful and apologetic to the British public whom he has built a camaraderie with over the years, making him fully aware of the diversity of our population. This may have sparked appreciation from the public and therefore he was welcomed back into our hearts.

Following this debacle, Clarkson is not as apologetic. Not only has he joked about moving a story about Ed Miliband “down the news agenda” with his crazed attack onto a veteran producer, he has also poked fun at the TV executives by Tweeting about the new airing schedule with the absence of Top Gear. In an obnoxious effort to dilute the seriousness of the situation, Clarkson Tweeted co-stars James May and Richard Hammond, “I did some pretty good war documentaries. They could screen one of those.” This may irritate members of the Twitter community, through his insinuation that a trivial war documentary would have to act as the unfortunate substitute.

It seems the BBC is not afraid to lay down the law in response to the car enthusiast’s constant mistakes. Hopefully justice will be served to deter the cocky presenter from slipping up in the future.
