While console users will have to pay full price for the upcoming Dark Souls Remastered, PC players will get to enjoy a discount on the title, should they already own the original on Steam. There was speculation whether a discount would be applied or not.

From Software confirmed that anyone who owns the Prepare to Die edition of the game on Steam will get a 50% discount when upgrading to Dark Souls Remastered when it launches in May. Owners of other versions will not be, eligible however.

On PC, the transition to the new version will take a few weeks. On 8th May, Prepare to Die will be removed from the store. Original owners will still be able to re-download it, but that’s basically a moot point with the new one coming out.

The remaster will feature upgraded character models, textures, quality of life improvements and a noticeable visual upgrade. You will also be able to play online with up to six people instead of the original four. Combat and environments will b,e unchanged however. Many had hoped to see things like dual wielding be implemented, but this is a remaster, not a remake.

The title, which was first released in 2011, will also appear on Switch, but not until later this summer. It was originally due to release on the same day but was delayed. You can also pick up a Solaire Amiibo if that’s your thing. Check it out below.
