Dear Telltale…

Telltale, an international games creator who made series like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales From The Borderlands, have just released their newest TWD game, focusing on the character of Michonne.

But something has been bugging me about Telltale recently.

Having played through both TWD ½ and some of TWAU,  it’s difficult to not feel tired of the same formula.

If we were to make a breakdown of each game, you could pinpoint the crucial moments at around the same time. So in the first Walking Dead game, we had shocks and story revelations in droves… then again in season 2. Then again in TWAU. While the formula is good, and yes each game was a delight to play… is it now just the Call of Duty of story-driven games?

Let’s not mention the abysmal Game of Thrones series they butchered. Fans everywhere were really wanting something to sink their teeth into, but it just looks old, and it wasn’t very well put together. Again, it wasn’t unplayable by any stretch. But it was meh.

And too many games today fall under meh.

Meh is what people would give Black Ops III (even though it’s still sat at no.1 in sales).

Also, with the lukewarm reception Michonne got (getting as low as a 6 out of 10 on Gamespot, and a 7 on IGN), it’s likely that Telltale is slipping a bit.

Plus, the engine is old now. That art style, while striking and pleasing to look at, looks old. Like, 2008-old, which just isn’t excusable when you have games like The Witcher and XCOM 2 in the limelight.

So hopefully, the rest of the current TWD series will impress.

We hope.
