DOOM Is Going To Be Metal As Hell

Id Software’s newest upcoming title, Doom, will have a very ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ vibe, according to creative director Hugo Martin. He admitted in an interview that the world they have created is over-the-top guns and explosions, and metal. Much like the metal music themed action game Brutal Legend.
Martin told Game Informer that “Rock ‘n’ roll was our inspiration for everything; there is a lot of heavy metal in our hell, and that is intentional”. From what we saw at E3 last year, we can certainly see where they’re coming from: it was ten minutes of pure over-the-top take downs and demons, to a sick riff.
He added that the original Doom was what a “15-year-old would draw on the back of his notebook in math class. We really wanted the world to look like that – to have a personality that would shine through in everything we did.” He even described it as “very He-Man”.
He also elaborated as best as he could on the narrative of the game. “Story isn’t something big in a Doom game, and we’ve taken that approach”, Martin explained. He pointed out the main thing people played Doom for. “They come to kill demons and blow [stuff] up in amazing ways.”
But there will still be some things for the lore-hungry of us, he promised.
Doom is set to launch this spring, and with any luck, it’ll be all we expected and more: we’ll be having a crack at this fella with guitars shredding in the background.
