England Edge Wales In Euro 2016

Wales is a country that has three times as many sheep as it does people. They’ve never qualified for any major football tournament since 1958 – they’re hardly one of the big teams this year. England should be beating them.

And fortunately, they did.

Of course, I mean no disrespect to Wales; their team put in a priceless performance against Slovakia last week and they fought to the bitter end against England yesterday.

Yesterday’s match started somewhat nervously for England, having narrowly missed out on all three points against Russia last Saturday, and when Gareth Bale found the net with yet another world-class free kick, English hearts began to break. To our relief, England got their act together in the second half with the Premier League Player Of The Year, Jamie Vardy, drawing level, leading to impassioned cries to the tune of “Jamie Vardy’s having a party”.

A tense half an hour followed, before Daniel Sturridge capitalised on clumsy defending inside the six yard box to put England ahead in the dying moments of the match.

And it’s safe to say, the fans went wild….
