The most recent addition to the renowned Marvel Cinematic Universe is the 2021 Black Widow film, which certainly does not divert from the extremely high expectation that comes with each instalment of anything associated with Marvel.

Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz star in the film that follows the hit Captain America: Civil War. It demonstrates how Natasha Romanoff faces her new lifestyle as a fugitive from the government whilst trying to have some form of independence.

Natasha and her younger sister Yelena reunite alongside their parents, Alexei and Melina, in order to defeat the villain Dreykov with his team of weaponised widows. The widows have all been trained as brutal assassins in order to bring more formality and order to the currently damaged world.

They attempt to overcome various obstacles in true Marvel style by heroically encountering many intriguing events.

Black Widow contains several excellent performances, a lot of impressive dialogue, some incredible action set pieces and an interesting spy backstory for one of the best-loved avengers.

The extraordinary action scenes, complete with impressive stunts and incredible choreography is perfectly demonstrated in Black Widow with the fight scenes having a more realistic and grounded feel than in other Marvel films, such as Guardians of the Galaxy.

For example, the first fight between Yelena and Natasha sees the two having a fierce battle, showing both of their deadly and equally matched skillsets; it immediately established what to expect from this action-packed film.

Additionally, a heartwarming family-oriented aspect is a reoccurring theme throughout the film. Despite the expected squabbling between the family, it is made explicit how much they do genuinely care for one another and the few joyful memories that they have been cherished as they have individually matured.

To conclude, this film has significantly added to the character of Natasha Romanoff by giving the audience even more background to her already well-established role.

Black Widow was an absolute joy to watch and has left a variety of possibilities open for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by leading onto the upcoming Hawkeye series through the vengeance of Yelena Belova.
