Freshers’ week

Freshers’ week is (sadly) over now, and what a week it has been.

Going into it, I genuinely believed that I’d make zero friends and have a pretty average week. Instead, I’ve had one of the best weeks of my life and have met some amazing people.

Everything about making friends, however, is pure luck. It all depends on who you are randomly allocated to sleep next to on a corridor and then in one block. But, for once, luck was actually on my side and I live in a block with a bunch of people who are funny, kind and have excellent taste in drinking games.

If your freshers’ week didn’t go great, though, stick in with it. You’ve still got so many more people to meet on your course and in all of the different societies you’ve joined. It can be lonely out here sometimes, and will be when the events of freshers’ week die down, but it’s worth keeping at it. The best things never, ever come easy.

Oh, and, yes, this column is late in true drunken fresher style. It was a busy week…

Song of the Week

This week’s song is Thunderstruck. Forever the best song to have with a few ‘quiet’ drinks…
