Of course, the real reason behind the recording of the 1966 classic is to mark the launch of BBC Music, described as ‘an ambitious wave of new programmes, innovative partnerships and ground-breaking music initiatives that mount to the beeb’s strongest commitment to music in 30 years’. Just like the similar recording of ‘Perfect Day’ seventeen years ago, the BBC are releasing the single to raise money for the Children in Need appeal this year.

With a recording packed full of some of the most famous and best-selling artists in history, ‘God Only Knows’ is sure to be something very refreshing in the charts.
