Fox News: Still Bigots

We’re little more than a day after Beyonce’s incredible performance at the Super Bowl, and already Fox News have a problem with it.

She premiered her newest song Formation. It’s a powerful political song about being black in America, and almost a battle cry for Black Lives Matter.

The performance featured Bey wearing a military-style uniform, surrounded by what could also be described as a small army of dancers, dressed similarly. The act was a sight to behold, and it’s safe to say, we’re more than a little jealous of how she can sing, dance, wear tights, have a child and still look that good.

HOWEVER.

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade went to great lengths to point out that he “couldn’t really make out what Beyoncé was saying.”

Really?

The military outfit aesthetic, the tribute to the Black Panthers, the political lyrics?

You know what Brian took away from all of this?

“The lyrics are basically telling cops to stop shooting blacks.”

Yeah. They were… is that a problem?

After this, one time Republican contender and ex-mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani was up for the ‘not all police officers’ argument.

“I thought it was really outrageous that she used it as a platform to attack police officers — the people who protect her and protect us and keep us alive, and what we should be doing in the African American community and all communities is build up respect for police officers. And focus on the fact that when something does go wrong, OK, well, we’ll work on that. But the vast majority of police officers risk their lives to keep us safe.”

As well as completely ignoring the inherent racism that the US justice system is so deeply saturated with, Giuliani also insinuated that Bey’s performance wasn’t ‘decent’ and ‘wholesome’ – words often used to marginalize black bodies and issues.

Just. Stop.

If you’re white and you have an opinion on Black Lives Matter, unless it’s you supporting that movement – i.e. doing the right thing – your opinion is invalid.

Bey stood out at the Super Bowl.

Good.

Because as big an issue as it is, media broadcasters (especially Fox) will flat out refuse to believe that the police are anything but shining examples of star citizens.

You do you Bey.
