Gang feuds linked to Salford shootings

The shootings of a mother and her seven-year-old son have been linked to feuds between rival gangs in Salford, Greater Manchester Police have said.

The attacks, which took place on Monday, have been formally linked to the death of Salford’s “Mr Big” Paul Massey, who was gunned down outside his home in July. Both victims of the latest attack are now in hospital with leg wounds.

The GMP says that “escalating” gang violence is most likely part of feuds “over disrespect”, and that over thirty firearms have been seized since January, but Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins says that gun violence is “absolutely not out of control” in the city. Many of the rival gangs are also thought to be involved in drug-dealing and extortion.

The GMP has also reported six shootings in the Little Hulton area, but says that these are unlikely to be connected with the Massey shootings. Local Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd has urged local people with any information to come forward.
