Gig Review: Little Triggers

Following their recent European tour, Little Triggers returned home to play a couple of shows in Liverpool, including at the Cavern Club on Wednesday. The original Cavern Club hosted many famous bands, most notably The Beatles, and so is key to Liverpool’s music scene. Little Triggers performed as part of the night organised by BBC Introducing’s Dave Monks.

Little Triggers’ live performance was full of energy, opening with their single ‘Giving Me Up’ before relentlessly leaping from track to track. The drummer, Sam, is clearly talented as he pulled off immensely quick fills, while frontman Tom loosened up throughout the set, until the crowd were cheering for the band by the end of it. Their set was propelled by high-intensity songs, with a couple of covers (namely of the Blues Brothers) to give the audience a chance to breathe.

The small, crammed venue suited the music: a mix of punk and indie rock, similar to the Arctic Monkeys or The Last Shadow Puppets. Rather than tiring out the sound, Little Triggers were reinvigorating it.
