GTA V Hits 70 Million Copies Sold

Take-Two Interactive, parent company to Rockstar Game and 2K, recently reported their earnings, and showed that GTA V has sold 70 million copies, as its online mode continues to grow. With the recent Bikers Update, people are playing now more than ever. Mafia III shipped 4.5 million copies in its first week, which was 2K’s biggest launch ever for a game, and Civilization games reached 37 million copies sold after the release of Civilization 6 last month.
2K’s CEO responded to the rather poor review scores Mafia III had gotten since its release, saying:
“In terms of the reviews and scores, it was sort of an odd anomaly,” he explained. “The scores were lower than we would have liked. But there are a lot of stellar reviews. I think the most prominent reviewers really loved it and recognised that what we’re doing here, from the story, art, character, and excitement perspective is really unmatched in the marketplace. So I think we and our competitors are seeing some anomalies in the review system, but we take them as they are and we don’t argue with it.”
The hype train for Mafia, while not present here, was everywhere else. The early trailers promised action on a grand scale, and a gritty look at the swamps and cities of the 1960s.
Unfortunately the game was plagued with bugs and, according to Gamespot, “entirely unoriginal.”
IGN called it “Barren because there isn’t that much to do.”
The year is nearly over, but we have a few more titles to look forward to, including Dishonored 2 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
GTA V came out in September 2013, and it looks like Rockstar are going to continue to update the game for the foreseeable future, and as long as they have a player base. The last gen consoles are no longer being updated, due to the limitations of the hardware.
