So, in the trend of rebooting every single idea ever, Hellboy, the big red monkey that graced our screens in 2004 and 2008, will be making a return in a different form.

While Guillermo del Toro directed the first two films, he stated earlier this year a third film from him would “100% not happen”. He and Ron Perlman discussed on numerous occasions the potential of a new movie, however due to numerous pushbacks and what would be a “dangerous” investment, it was cancelled.

The reboot, however, will be joining the trend of going R-rated; after the massive successes of Deadpool and Logan, many companies are following suit. The newest incarnation will feature Neil Marshall as director and Stranger Things actor David Harbour as the big red guy. It’s a decent choice I think, however, he has some rather large boots (or hooves) to fill.

Hellboy’s creator Mike Mignola shared the news on his Facebook, announcing the reboot.

“There is going to be another Hellboy movie. It’s going to be an R-rated reboot directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game Of Thrones) and starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy,”

You know, del Toro’s Hellboy films were fantastic. They paid tribute to the comics in a way only he could, with weird and wonderful creature designs and some awesome set pieces. Plus, Ron Perlman was a fantastic lead, in his delivery and general portrayal of the character. It remains one of the most underrated comic book adaptions ever.

We’ll see how it goes, but hopefully it’ll be a fitting reboot.

Just make sure Hellboy still loves cats.
