England’s national womens team  made history at Wembley with a record breaking crowd of an astonishing 45,919 on Sunday when they took to the field against Germany.

Although the crowd were down by 10,000 expected fans they still outnumbered the 40,000 who turned up to see the men face Norway in September.

The family crowd were noisy and upbeat from the off. Despite England not having beaten Germany in 19 games including their 3-0 defeat on Sunday, it didn’t stop the party atmosphere.

Games across the region were cancelled on Sunday to support the ladies and to watch how women’s football has grown.

Even if families couldn’t attend the game due to the weather there was always live coverage of the match on BBC.

England’s skipper Karen Carney made an appearance for her 100th cap at the home of football and certainly a game she’ll never forget.
