How To Manage Time Effectively

For those of us in sixth form or at university, we’ve got a lot of work. A lot of us also have part-time jobs, EPQs and volunteering to fit in, too.

So many of us then wonder if there are even enough hours in the day to get the work done. Well, this guide is for anyone who has ever wondered that and is struggling to manage their time effectively.

1. Free time

You get frees to do work in them. It’s that simple. If you’ve got homework to do, don’t be nipping out to McDonald’s. Stay in school and get your work done.

If you’re going to pull that classic ‘I don’t have any work’ move, you’re wrong. There is always work to be done. Get some extra from your teachers and do it. Don’t lose sight of what you’re working for. Short-term pain for long-term gain.

2. After school

For those with part-time jobs, after school is a tricky one. That’s why you need to make use of your free time during the day.

If you have a few hours before work then you should use them to relax and watch or read something you enjoy. If you have still got work to do, try getting it done before work as you’ll usually get back late in the evening.

3. Weekends

Cinderella may go to the ball (only if the work is done).

Ideally, you should set aside three to five hours of your weekend if you’ve got work to do. If you have essays, make sure to find a quiet space during the day to plan and write them up before you go to a party.

Going out during the day? Easy, do your work in the evening. X Factor is on every year – it’s not that special.

So, that’s how we propose managing your time effectively. It’s important to get a work-life balance and so you should make sure you’re not doing too many hours at work. Money is a good motivator but look at the job you’re doing. Is it something you want to be doing for the rest of your life? For most people, the answer is no. Use that as your study motivation.

Good luck!
