By Lauren E. White

David Tennant, born David John McDonald, 18th April 1971, is a Scottish actor, known mostly for his role as the tenth incarnation of the Doctor in Britain’s best sci-fi drama, Doctor Who.

From the age of three, Tennant claims he knew that he wanted to be an actor and was ‘absurdly single-minded’ in wanting to pursue acting as a career. Tennant landed a role as Giacomo Casanova in a TV serial of Casanova in 2005, written by Russell T. Davies who was later his gateway to becoming the Doctor. Later in 2005, David was announced as the new Doctor and debuted on Christmas Day alongside Billie Piper who played the role of Rose Tyler, the Doctor’s companion.

After spending five years in Doctor Who, Tennant left in 2010, leaving thousands of fans broken-hearted. Despite all of his television work, David appeared as the lead role in The RSC’s theatre production of Hamlet which received endless praise from critics everywhere.

Why do we think he is inspirational?

  1. Tennant attended a regular comprehensive school and started from nothing, climbing his way up the profession he has a clear passion for.
  2. His devotion to acting is something that everyone, young or old, should take note of. Tennant had his mind set on doing something he loved from a very young age and he devoted years of his childhood and teenage years to acting.
  3. Aside from his acting achievements, David takes it upon himself to work alongside Comic Relief and Sport Relief each year. He raises public awareness by flying out to third-world countries and meeting those who suffer each day, as well as donating personally.
