Idris Elba will be the focus in the new documentary Mandela, My Dad and Me. The documentary is based on the actors journey of ‘self exploration’ and how he copes with the loss of his own father. The film was originally meant to be about the recording of the soundtrack to Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom in South Africa and Mali during the final months of 2013, but after Elba lost his father the main focus changed to something closer to home and something the actor could relate to.
The 60 minute film is directed by BAFTA winner Daniel Vernon and will be seen for the first time on the British Film Institute’s big screen on April 7th.
